Clinical Observation of Phloric Stenosis

Abstract
A clinical study made on 38 cases of pyloric stenosis with clinical diagnosis of benign peptic ulcer who were admitted to the Dept. of Surgery of Chunnam University Hospital for the past 5 years from 1960 to 1965 is presented here.
1) The age of majority of cases ranged at the 4th decade (31.6 % ).
The ratio of male to female was 3.2 to 1.
The ratio of gastric and duodenal ulcer was 1 to 6.6.
2) The duration of illness was over 10 years in 14 cases (36.8 % ). presented the highest frequency.
3) Indigestion was the commonest past history (68.4 % ), while vomiting was the major complaint on the-consultation (89.5 % ).
4) Gastric aspirate in the early morning was up to 500cc. in the majority of 29 cases with reliable records (62.1%).
With regard to acidity, 16 cases showed normoacidity(55. 2 % ), 8 cases hyperacidity (27.6%)and 5 cases hypoacidity (17.2 % ).
5) Almost every case showed X-ray findings of far advanced pyloric obstructions which is possibly due to the natives¢¥ remoteness from our hospital.
6) The early postoperative complication was 18.3%, those were, duodenal stump leakage 2.6%, wound infection 7.9%, respiratory infection 5.276 and melena 2.6%.
